We've been thinking and teaching, and discussing about what best facilitates learning tango. There have been a lot of interesting conversations with complete beginners and experienced dancers that have led to the first of a series of posts.

The questionable argument is that, in the beginning, leaders have a steeper learning curve than followers.

In the process of my own learning, and now, again as we are helping new beginners to learn tango, I am questioning the way many of us have been taught and the perspectives that new dancers have, or are taught to have, shortly after they begin learning Argentine tango.

Here is a nice post about kiki and bouba and how +Murat Erdemsel links them to tango music. We use these idea's to help our students learn to hear the music and the phrasing within. We even have colored paper cutouts on wands, to help with the idea. Believe it or not Biagi's 'Racing club' is a great example of kiki and bouba phrasing. Another favorite of ours is Di Sarli's 'No Esta'. There are numerous choices that show these basic idea's and even more that blur the lines by combining kiki and bouba as melodies and counter melodies,fills and accents. Dancing to both kiki and bouba at the same time is full of possibilities and the results can be amazing.

Tonight is our first full night of tango class and practica at our new location!

Susannah has made some amazing pumpkin bread with an apple/citrus glaze.
The bread will taste amazing along side her fantastic hot cider.

It's a good thing she made extra!

Classes start at 7:00, the practica starts at 9:00. BYOB.
